I’ve had ChatGPT and MidJourney accounts for quite awhile now. I haven’t used ChatGPT recently since the technical questions I was asking it about NGLs stumped it 9 times out of 10. One response contained 3 different formulas and all but one of them was wrong. The image generators struggled with illustrations of equipment we’ve used in in our industry for over 100 years.
On the other hand, AI has been very helpful in expanding my reach in research and summarizing long documents I just don’t have the patience to get through. I don’t use it for writing content yet, and this website wasn’t built with it. There’s a place for it, especially in industrial automation, which we’ve actually been using it for ever since I’ve been in the industry, which is a very long time.
This page of the website is used for content on current topics, mostly related to energy, some related to project development, some related to the process of getting big things with long useful lives built.
In the past, I’ve posted data – charts, capacity info, price curves. Unfortunately BigTech is happy to spend billions/trillions on computer chips and data centers, but like a lot of consumers wants the thing they have to have to be free – our data. Proprietary data, curated over long years, vetted by experts, proven by events. I will use AI on my own data, but on my own server, and without “sharing” it with the Cloud unless it’s worth it.
The data models and products I build and sell have security, access control, and privacy as their first consideration. We can make the AI smarter and improve everyone’s knowledge, but without a good teacher the student struggles to reach its potential.
